While this is largely up for debate, I have to cast my vote for a scene in John Hughes’ “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”. The movie is an obvious classic and contains many memorable scenes, but one in particular stands out.

Not only is it, in my opinion, the funniest scene in the movie but it also summarizes an entire character’s role in just a few short seconds. Few scenes can do that while still being hilarious.

The scene that I am talking about is the shot when Ed Rooney is leaving the Bueller house after an already comical list of misfortunes. Upon reaching his car, he sees that it is being towed. He runs over to the car yelling and tries to enter the car by opening the door with his keys. As he puts the key in the door, the tow truck starts to drive away with Rooney”s keys still in the door. Rooney screams in frustration and looks around and eventually up to the heavens seemingly asking “why?”.

I am not doing this scene any justice. It has to be seen to merit its worth. Next time you catch this amazing flick, be sure to pay extra attention to this scene.

Side Note: As mentioned by The Beard, Rooney’s car is parked, recieves one ticket, then recieves multiple tickets (about 6, shown in a shot a little bit later), then is eventually towed… all while investigating the Bueller household. Even with being knocked out by Jeanie, the length of time at the house couldnt have eclipsed more then 15 minutes, and that is still a generous time estimation.
